Everything comes back in style, eventually. The 1970’s were somewhat of a continuation of fashions that began the previous decade. The 1960’s set the stage for freedom of expression in fashion with bright colors and trendy styles that morphed into the next decade, and, in some cases, still hold true to this day. 70’s fashions covered a wide variety of styles. Creativity and expression gave birth to some styles we still see, whether in their original state or a revised newer edgy version. Many of today’s top designers revisit the 70’s styles, even though this era is regarded as anti-fashion or irrelevant by some. Here are 9 fashion trends that are totally 1970’s!
Fringes have been making a fashion comeback since last year. We see them on booties, blouses, skirts, jackets, sweaters, dresses, ponchos and handbags. In the 70’s fringes started out as a popular rise in Western Wear and quickly took on a life of its own. Hippies seemed to be fringed everywhere, as though they were a flock of birds. Today, designers are hanging them off the sides of shorts, on blouse sleeves, and just about everything you can think of. This angelic, flowing style is a coming trend for the Fall 2017 season as well. The movement of fringe creates a playful, fun accent to garments set to hit the runways this year. Some standouts include Sacai, adding fringe to everyday sweaters and Gucci debuting a fringed umbrella. Marchesa has created a modern-day flapper dress by adding fringe to their evening gown collection. These are not your grandparent’s fringes anymore!
