When you think of the symptoms of an illness you mostly likely think about a fever, hives, or a rash. While these are common signs of a sickness, the body has developed other ways to demonstrate when there are problems with a person’s physical health. One of these overlooked symptoms is the characteristics of a person’s fingernails. A person’s nails can reveal a physical illness before more serious symptoms start to occur. Learn what signs you should look out for on your nail and stay healthy with the 9 Things Fingernails Can Reveal About Your Health.
1) Pale Nails
Identifying pale fingernails can be one of the hardest symptoms to identify because it is usually very subtle. Healthy nail beds should be a pink color with no discoloration or distortions. If the nailbed does not look as vibrant as it normally does it may be an indication of a serious diseases like anemia, liver disease, or congestive heart failure. This may also indicate low iron levels and a need for improvement in one’s diet. Red meats, beans, and dark leafy greens are foods high in iron. These high iron foods can help your body restore its normal iron levels and allow the nails to return to a normal color. If the symptoms continue to persist, consider getting your nails looked at by a professional.
